David-Altenor-War-And-Peace-

Fusemix When did you first start singing?
David Altenor I first started singing when I was 15 to teach choirs in church, but really started singing a lot more in college when I was 18 years old. Once I graduated from BC, I really started singing more as an actual artist.

FM What did your family do to encourage you?
DA
My family was and is still very supportive. My mother, brothers and sister Laura, saw my gift early on and really encouraged me to develop my skills even more. My biggest supporter was my late bother Lou. He passed away due to brain cancer back in 2008, but his words still inspire me today.

FM Who else in your family sings?
DA YES! My little sister Laura is an incredible singer! I’d say she’s the best singer in the family. My older brother Jean (aka Tunez and Lou Diamonds) sings and produces also.

FM Who are your musical inspirations?
DA Making music is a very spiritual process for me. I believe that my sound comes from God and the closer I am to Him, the more inspired I feel and am.   I listened to a lot of Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin and Ray Charles growing up.

FM What kind of music do you listen to today?
DA I’m a musician first, with my first love being the piano so I listen to all genres like jazz, gospel, funk, pop, rap, classical, film scores, Disney music (love the arrangements), music from broadway musicials etc.

FM What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?
DA Oh wow! Good question. I have some N’Sync in my mix, I also love Disney music so I have a lot of that in there also.

FM Where would you most like to perform?
DA I’d love to perform at the Superbowl Halftime Show or at the Grammys one day.

FM Who would you most like to open for?
DA If he were still alive I’d say Michael Jackson, but definitely KanYe West.

FM If you weren't singing, what would you be doing?
DA Wow, another good question. If I wasn’t involved so heavily in music at all I’d probably be a pastor, but I know I’d definitely be involved in real estate. Definitely managing talent, which I recently discovered I have a knack for.

FM Do you play any instruments?
DA Yes I play the piano and organ. I also can play the drums and bass, but I love the piano so much! I love the keys.

FM If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?
DA I would definitely mess around with Pop with more meaningful lyrical content, just to have fun. It seems so easy to me.

FM What genre of music can't you stand to listen to?
DA Pop. Particularly what plays on the radio the most these days. However, there are very talented artists out there and I’m glad that there are more breaking through than in the past

FM What hidden talents do you have?
DA  I’m actually a fairly good break-dancer! haha Well I used to be when I was really into it. Most of my talent in focused in music: writing, producing, arranging, singing, rapping, choir directing, film scoring etc.

FM Do you enjoy writing music and/or lyrics?
DA I LOVE creating music. One of the easiest things for me to do is produce/write music.

FM What do you think about when you’re preforming?
DA When not performing, I tend to be a little awkward at times, but during a performance I feel like a fish in water. Everything slows down for me while performing and I tend to pick up on everything around me, like what each musician/singer is playing or doing down to facial expressions of members of the audience.

FM What else can we expect from you in the future?
DA God willing my record label Kingdomsound Music Group, LLC will continue to grow, my recording studio expanding, doing more as a music director at Boston College with the Voices of Imani Gospel Choir, signing artists and talent to my label and my upcoming EP/music project in 2015 among other things.

FM We heard you got invited some where big, can you tell us more.
DA I got invited to the Grammys so I’m looking forward to that as well as a tour with Voices of Imani (Boston College). I recently released a music video for one my new singles #WARandPEACE so check that out on YouTube and be sure to purchase the song online.
