If you had thirty seconds to speak to millions, what would you say?
Find out what Fixed Point has to say at halftime of this year’s Super Bowl.

Birmingham, AL - Fixed Point Foundation is launching a new initiative called “LookUp 316.” Through this initiative, Fixed Point will be airing a commercial in Alabama during this year’s Super Bowl on February 6th, 2011. This commercial won’t sell a product, it won’t advance a political cause, and it won’t promote an organization. Instead, it will simply encourage people to take a moment and read the words found in John 3:16.

The project started several months ago with this thought: If you had thirty seconds to speak to millions of people, what would you say? Would you sell something? Offer social or political commentary? Or would you want to say something else? Fixed Point saw it as an opportunity to say something truly meaningful. The purpose of the LookUp 316 Super Bowl commercial is simply to deliver a message of hope.

The original goal of LookUp 316 was to air a national commercial during Super Bowl XLV on February 6th, 2011. When the organization took this idea to Fox Sports, host network of this year’s Super Bowl, they rejected the commercial on the basis that it contained “religious doctrine.” Of course, it seems one can advertize just about anything else. Few movie trailers are deemed too violent or beer commercials too sexual for primetime. But religious messages, particularly Christian ones, well, that’s just too controversial.  So the message has been taken to local markets.

Fixed Point believes that Super Bowl XLV is an opportunity to encourage football fans to look up John 3:16. After all, John 3:16 is part of the culture of football. We occasionally see it on signs in end zones after field goals and extra point attempts; on players’ tape and tattoos; and Tim Tebow was famous for writing it in his eye black. And yet, many fans don’t know what it means. They have yet to be touched by the hope it offers; the immediate relevance it has to their lives. Therein is our chance to say something meaningful.

This initiative also includes a robust website that will accompany the commercial.  This site will contain a clear presentation of the content of John 3:16 as well as its meaning. You can find this site at www.lookup316.com

WHEN: February 6, 2011; 5:30 PM CST Kickoff; LookUp 316 commercial will air regionally during halftime.  www.lookup316.com.
