Popular Worship Leader/Singer/Songwriter Partners With Fans Through Kickstarter

Nashville, Tenn.  - Popular worship leader/singer/songwriter Jason Bare is partnering with his fans for his new Christmas EP, Have You Heard, featuring the No. 1 radio single "For The First Time." Bare has taken an innovative approach to fund the new project through Kickstarter, a popular "crowd-funding" platform for creative projects.

"The birth of Christ is, to me, the most beautiful story ever told and I want the music in this project to convey that. We have spent hours upon hours of time writing and creating a record that will bring the mystery and the beauty of Christmas to life to everyone that hears it," says Bare.

Bare, who released his debut CD, Beautiful Design, earlier this year, has been in the studio for several months working on the new Christmas record of all original holiday music. The project features "For The First Time," which has already become a Christmas favorite, claiming the No. 1 spot on the Christian Music Weekly Worship chart and making it into the Top 30 of Billboard's Soft AC/Inspirational chart during December 2010.

"I wrote my first Christmas song almost 20 years ago," Bare says, "and since that time it has been a vision of mine to release a Christmas project. I have been working diligently with producers and writers and we are so close to the end, but now we need our fans' help and Kickstarter is providing that vehicle."

Bare's evocative, emotion-laden vocals imbue each song on the project with a unique sense of familiarity, like meeting old friends in unexpected places. He employs a haunting minor key piano line to ask the age-old question, "What Child Is This," before segueing into joyful orchestration to underscore the answer — "This is the child of hope and wonder, the Savior of the world!"

Few things are as beautiful as Christmas through the eyes of a child, and Bare tells the story with childlike awe in "Have You Heard," accompanied by a lilting children's choir. The sounds of acoustic piano and chiming bells unite in anticipation of the foretold miracle in "The Night When Hope Was Born." The soaring praise aria, "For The First Time," reverberates with the incredulous amazement of that first Christmas morning as seen through the eyes of creation looking down on a young mother and father holding their firstborn son.

Bare joins a growing number of musicians who are utilizing Kickstarter for new projects, including Dove Award winner Cheri Keaggy and Gospel Music Hall of Famer John Schlitt, formerly lead singer of the classic mainstream rock group of Head East and lead singer for award-winning Christian band Petra during the era when the band won four Grammy Awards and 10 Dove Awards.

Using a system of pledges and rewards, supporters worldwide have already pledged more than $3,800, representing 45 percent of the project's goal. The deadline to make pledges for Have You Heard through Kickstarter is October 27 at noon EDT.

Pledges are taken on Bare's personal Kickstarter site (kickstarter.com/jasonbare) and powered by Amazon, enabling backers' credit cards to be charged via a secure website.

"Kickstarter.com is an amazing tool and I am humbled by the support we've received so far. I look forward to seeing where God takes our music. I'm thankful to all of my friends and fans who, through Kickstarter, are involved in making this vision come alive," Bare says.

About Kickstarter:
Hundreds of individuals have raised capital through the Kickstarter business model, including Christian musicians Shaun Groves, John Schlitt and Cheri Keaggy, who, earlier in 2011, raised the funds for the CDs they are currently recording. The upcoming film adaptation of Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz received $345,992 (276% of its original goal) from more than 4,495 donors through Kickstarter to make it the largest crowd-funded film in history, according to Paste Magazine and Kickstarter's website.
About Jason Bare:
After spending a lifetime growing up in church as a preacher's kid, attending Lee University and traveling as part of the Lee Singers, Bare has spent the past 14 years leading congregations in praise and worship, most recently at Kingdom Life Ministries in Virginia, while also writing and singing his original music. In December 2010, he had a No. 1 single with the nationally released Christmas song "For The First Time" and released his debut CD, Beautiful Design, earlier this year. He has appeared on TBN, JCTV and CTN, premiered his first music video for "You Found Me" and toured throughout the United States and South Africa.
