THE 27th ANNUAL STELLAR GOSPEL MUSIC AWARDS
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11 AT 7 PM ET

ATLANTA, GA -- - GMC TV, America's favorite channel for uplifting music and family entertainment, will present the 27th Annual Stellar Gospel music Awards, the premiere gospel event that recognizes and honors the greatest gospel artists. Hosted by gospel icons, Dorinda Clark-Cole and Marvin Sapp and taped before a live audience at Nashville's iconic Grand Ole Opry House Theater, the two hour show will air on GMC, Saturday, February 11th at 7 p.m. ET with encore broadcasts at 9 and 11 p.m. ET and re-airing on Saturday, February 18th at 5 p.m. ET, Monday, February 27th at 11 p.m. ET, and Saturday, March 2nd at 12 a.m. ET. In addition, at 6 p.m. ET, GMC will present an exclusive one hour behind the scenes Red Carpet preview of the 27th Annual Stellar Awards, "The Stellar Awards Backstage" hosted by comedian Jonathan Slocumb.

Honoring gospel music's best and brightest stars, the Stellar Gospel Music Awards feature live performances by Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Earnest Pugh, Richard Smallwood & Vision, James Fortune & Fiya, Ricky Dillard & New G, Kim Burrell, Jessica Reedy, Martha Munizzi, and William McDowell among others. Special appearances are made by Shirley Caesar, Donnie McClurkin, Tina Campbell (Mary Mary), Carmen Ejogo, Vashawn Mitchell, Shirley Murdock, Dr. Bobby Jones, Dorothy Norwood, Kurt Carr, Dottie Peoples, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Wess Morgan and LeCrae who will appear in the upcoming original GMC World Premiere Movie, A Cross to Bear on Saturday, February 18th.

Rising Gospel music superstar VaShawn Mitchell received the most awards with six, including Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Male of the Year and Praise and Worship CD of the Year for his 2011 album, "Triumphant." Stellar Music Award stalwart Kirk Franklin took home Song of the Year honors during the show and received three additional honors, including CD of the Year, Producer of the Year and Contemporary CD of the Year.
 
This year's show also recognizes the great accomplishments of some of Gospel's trailblazers. John P. Kee received the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments over a career that spans three decades and is serenaded by Isaac Carree, Sheila Lakin, Lowell Pye and Zacardi Cortez. Dorothy Norwood, dubbed "The World's Greatest Gospel Story Teller," receives the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award, presented by the veteran show host. Vy Higgensen, the first woman to host a morning show on New York radio as well as produce a faith-based musical on Broadway, receives the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award for her work with the "Gospel for Teens" program.
 
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards show is executive produced by Don Jackson, CEO and produced by Barbara Wilson for Central City Productions. Founded in 1970 by Don Jackson, Chicago-based Central City Productions is a distributor of original programming to television and cable networks.
 
Jackson stated, "Our 27th special was by far our most diverse program to date, with performances that spanned the entire spectrum of Gospel music including Hip Hop, Rap, Contemporary, Praise & Worship, and Traditional....our best ever from start to finish."
