April 03, 2012 (Nashville, Tenn.)—On Saturday night, March 31, 2012 Denver Moore, author, artist, public speaker and friend, passed away at age 75.  Denver, a devout philanthropist for homeless causes, was best known for the “New York Times” best-selling book, “Same Kind of Different As Me,” which he co-authored with friend Ron Hall and Lynn Vincent.  The book has sold over one million copies.
Born in rural Louisiana, Denver grew up on a cotton plantation, eventually becoming a homeless drifter.  Unable to read or write for most of his life, Denver lived life overcoming obstacles that ultimately led him to putting Christ first in his life.  In 1998, at a homeless shelter in Fort Worth, Texas, Denver met Debbie Hall—a friend who he said changed his life forever.  In 2000, Ron Hall and Denver began writing a book together to honor Ron’s deceased wife and Denver’s beloved friend, “Miss Debbie.”
“Same Kind of Different As Me” followed by “What Difference Do It Make?” were two books written by the trio, that told the true story of two men, unlikely to ever have met if faith, love and Debbie had never interfered. “None of us who knew Denver or have read his story will ever be the same,” said David Moberg, senior vice president and group publisher for Thomas Nelson, Inc.  “He touched us deeply and he moved our hearts with his simple faith and profound wisdom.  It has been an honor for Thomas Nelson to serve as his publisher.”
Denver and Ron spent the last several years together advocating the importance of homeless rescue missions and community involvement.  In 2006, Denver was named “Philanthropist of the Year” by the citizens of Fort Worth for his work at the Union Gospel Mission.  In response to Denver’s passing, Ron Hall said, “"Denver woke up today in the arms of Jesus and got to see Miss Debbie again."
Denver was said to have died in his sleep, of natural causes.  His life will be celebrated on Thursday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. at McKinney Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas (805 Arbor Lawn Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76109).  The service is open to all who loved him and donations can be made, in honor of Denver, to The Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, in Fort Worth.
