Two of the Retailer’s All-Time Kindle Bestsellers Belong to Christian Publisher
(Nashville, TN) August 2012- Thomas Nelson, Inc. announced today that two of the Company’s highly-acclaimed titles – “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy” and “Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog & the Triumph of Trust” will be amongst a select few that Amazon has chosen to offer readers in celebration of the first anniversary for the successful Kindle Daily Deal promotion. These “New York Times” bestsellers are being offered at a discounted rate. The promotion went live earlier today, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Pacific time.
“Thunder Dog” – published in August 2011 and authored by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory – readers follow Hingson and his yellow Labrador Retriever, Roselle, in a firsthand, moment-by-moment account of each painstaking step between the 78th floor of the World Trade Center and survival on the streets below, just moments before the tower he was working in collapsed on 9/11. Hingson, a cum laude graduate of the University of California with a master's degree in physics, is a national ambassador for the “Braille Literacy Campaign” and in the aftermath of the book’s success has launched “Roselle's Dream Foundation” to assist blind children - and later, blind adults - in obtaining new technologies.
“Bonhoeffer” – Eric Metaxas’ powerful biography of the German theologian executed in April 1945 for his role in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler – was released in April 2010, on the 65th anniversary of the pastor’s execution. In the year following its publication, the 608-page tome accumulated numerous accolades from the likes of “Barnes & Noble”, “Kirkus Reviews”, “Relevant”, and “Preaching Magazine” and was awarded the Canterbury Medal for Religious Freedom. The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) recognized “Bonhoeffer” as its 2011 Christian Book of the Year. The ECPA coronation of the book - widely-acclaimed as a modern classic and called a “biography of uncommon power” by Archbishop Charles Chaput – marked the second of three consecutive Christian Book of the Year awards for Thomas Nelson.
